Tour of Scenic Rim

It is with regret that the 2011 Tour of the Scenic Rim has to be cancelled due to an insufficient number of entries making the event financially unviable for the Goldstars Cycling Club to conduct.

It appears that tough financial times and a full road calendar may have contributed to an overall reduction in entries exceeding 20% from last year’s event which, with a substantial increase in operating costs (specifically traffic control), would result in the Club incurring a large loss if it were to proceed.

Whilst a considerable amount of time and expense has already been incurred, the Club is in no position to compound the existing loss by conducting the event.

The Gold Coast Goldstars wishes the thank those who did enter and support the event and encourages all competitive cyclists to support upcoming road race events conducted during the Road Season if they do not wish to see more landmark events suffer the same fate.

This year’s courses have been selected by the new race director, Stan Brims, to both present challenging courses while maintaining a central control area for the three stages in Mt Alford where the local Rotary Club will be catering for weekend, and the Mt Alford School will be making their facilities available.

The Club recognises the valuable contribution made by previous race director, Peter Flynn, who’s vision and drive kick-started this event back in 2008 and kept it going through to 2010. Peter may even get a chance to actually ride it this year.
