Special welocme to Jack who made his first visit to a Goldstars training night. Its on again this Thursday .... see you then !

Junior Training Nights
Training is back in full swing at the Nerang Velodrome every Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Despite a few rainy afternoons where training has had to be cancelled, most nights have been well attended with almost all of our 2009 riders returning in 2010. There has also been the welcome addition of a few new riders who have joined the program.
Training in 2010 will build on the changes made in late 2009 where a lot of emphasis was placed on skill development for riders when they are on their own as well as when they are riding as part of a larger group.
Training will also involve endurance work, speed sessions as well as the very popular relays which generally conclude the night's sessions.
It is also great to see Mal, Dave and Gary on their bikes, along with a number of other parents, working with the juniors throughout the training sessions.
As was the case in 2009, training is on Tuesdays and Thursday from 4pm to 5.30pm.
Any queries please call the junior development officer, Malcolm Rae - 0411647592
Goldstars Junior Sub-Committee
The membership of the Goldstars Junior Sub-Committee for 2010 has now been finalised with the following members agreeing to part of the committee.
David Bell - Chair
Stan Brims - Head Coach
Mal Rae - Development Officer
Clint Mulling - Interested party
Sharyn Watson - Interested party
Cathy Reardon - Interested party
The role of the sub- committee will be to focus specifically on the development of junior cycling within the Club, including the recruitment of new members, training and development days, event participation as well as looking after the numerous events hosted by Goldstars during the year.
Please make sure you take the time to talk to members of the committee about junior development, about the ideas that you may have as well as the ways in which you may be able to assist the Club.
The sub-committee's most pressing task is the organisation of the 2010 Junior Carnival Day scheduled for Saturday 8th May (the day before Mothers day). The committee will soon be looking for volunteers to help on the day, as well as sponsors who may be able donations of cash for the trophies and/or prize money, as well as those who like to donate cycling type goodies for the prize table.
The development of the Goldstars junior ranks in 2009 was very successful and big things are again planned for 2010.
Sizzling Summer Series 2010
Congratulations to everybody who went up to Crestmead to race the "Sizzling Summer Series 2010." Four weekends of hard competitive racing, with not only the fast Goldstars senior riders, but also the awesome juniors from the Goldstars cycling club.
I've never seen so many proud smiling faces cross the finish line and I have to say I've never seen so many Goldstars juniors up on the podium collecting their medals that they all have worked so hard for over these last four weekends. I also want to congratulate all the juniors that got out there and had a go, and that's what junior cycling is mostly about - going out there giving all you've got, because cycling is not just about winning, but also about friendship and living life to the fullest. So congratulations to everyone and thank you to everyone that came out and supported the Goldstars at the "Sizzling Summer Series."

Goldstars juniors clean up at the Sunshine Coast 2day tour.
What a great weekend. Congratulations to all the juniors from all clubs who competed in the tour and the Sunshine Coast Club for putting on a great tour. This year there was plenty of competition in all grades. The new race tracks were fantastic with a brand new surface in a new industrial area; but, unfortunately for the riders, the track was very fast in one direction and extremely hard and slow in the other due to a nasty head wind. The day was otherwise perfect with blue sky and a very hot sun and some great racing.
All of our juniors should be very proud of themselves. They all gave the best effort that any of the coaches & parents have seen before, not to mention the Goldstars cheer squad we had going which inspired everyone.
4- Yellow tour winners, 4- Sprint Winners, 3- King of the Mountain Plus trophies, Prize money & prizes. Here are just a few of the riders who made the trip up north (pictured). Also a big thanks goes to all the Mums & Dads who helped make it all happen, a great bunch of people and a great party on Saturday night too.

Junior Programme Feedback
RE: JUNIOR CYCLING - BAILEY DEAKIN
I am writing today to express my sincerest thanks to you for your junior coaching. Just over 7 months ago my son Bailey as part of his triathlon training decided to join the Goldstars Cycling Club after being referred to you by one of his friends at school. Bailey has absolutely fallen in love with cycling and enjoys coming to training each Tuesday and Thursday and participating in other regular races that have come up. As you are aware last weekend Bailey medalled at the State Junior Championships with 1 Silver and 2 bronze medals in the U11 category.
I want to convey to you as a parent that we believe the Goldstars Junior coaches (Gary, David and Mal) to be the most wonderful influence on our son. Your commitment to the development of the junior riders is amazing and to think you all volunteer your time to help our children - that is truly so very special. Over the years we have seen many types of coaches and knew instantly when we joined the Goldstars club that we had indeed become part of a very special and wonderful community. Your method of coaching and mentoring is so special that you incorporate fun for the kids whilst also allowing them to develop and become the best that they each individually can be. Our son Bailey has truly benefited from having you guys as his coach.
When we first started with Goldstars we were able to purchase Baileys first bike from you at an affordable price to ensure that our outlays were kept to a minimum whilst Bailey had time to learn and decide if Cycling was a sport he would enjoy. Well 7 months later he is truly hooked and we have recently purchased Bailey a new road bike which he absolutely loves.
As most people in life have said that the team or the environment is only as good as the people at the top of the ship. Well not only is the coaching by Gary, David and Mal amazing but this filters right through to each of the junior children in the club.
My husband and I were so proud to be associated with Goldstars on the weekend at the State Titles and watch with a genuine interest and passion the older riders in the club cheering Bailey on and giving him guidance on tactics where his own experience is limited to date. The kids all love what they are doing and are truly a wonderful bunch of kids. We are so happy that Bailey is involved with such an environment and a healthy lifestyle that cycling promotes.
Gary, David and Mal, thank you for the giving of your time so selflessly to coach and mentor these young children. Your coaching combination is a very special one and will only bring out the very best in each child in a truly unique way.
John, Bailey and myself look forward to many wonderful years ahead with our involvement with the Goldstars Cycling Club.
Thank you Jodie Deakin

Goldstars Junior Program Goldstars Cycling Club is affilliated with Cycling Australia and is the only Junior Cycling development Club on the Gold Coast. Our junior members include those new to cycling through to National Junior Champions and record holders. Under the guidance of our Club coaches, we regularly conduct various programs for our Juniors which include skills, bike handling & general training. All our training sessions are held by qualified coaches or accredited *J-Cycle coaches. Newcomers are welcomed at any time accompanied by a parent and, after attending to some basic "duty of care" paperwork, can try out the sport on either their bike or one of the Club's. The Club has a number of small bikes for both short term loan or seasonal hire to alleviate parents of the cost of buying equipment before their child is committed to the sport.
For all enquiries email or Contact Malcolm Rae on 0411 647 592 with any enquiries relating to training or racing.
* J-Cycle is a skills based program run over eight sessions covering the fundamental safety issues as well as an introduction to the skills required for racing. It is envisioned that J-Cycle will encourage children to be "cyclist aware" as well develop an interest in cycling.

Junior Road Training Times - Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 4.00pm to 5.00pm at Nerang Cycling Centre, Hope Street, Nerang. All junior rides are strictly supervised by our Club Coaches. Before participating, ALL new riders must become registered with Cycling Australia. This can be done intially by taking a *"Recreational" Licence for the cost of $45 for the calendar year or $5.00 for Under 13. Adult Recreation Licences are $80.
* Recreational Licence is competitively priced for adults juniors and families. This Cycling Australia issued licence will allow cyclists to participate in events run by clubs or promoters for the sole reason of just "having a ride", this licence also covers the cyclist for public liability insurance which includes training rides.
